Keith Richards’ Bentley ‘Blue Lena’ for Sale at Goodwood

The famous Bentley owned by Keith Richards goes under the hammer through Bonhams

‘Blue Lena’, the favourite ride of Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards, is for sale at auction at the Goodwood Revival in September.

According to Bonhams the beautiful blue Bentley S3 Continental ‘Flying Spur’, which Richards bought new from dealer HR Owen in 1965, is the vector of thousands of drug fuelled rock’n’roll adventures.

If you know anything about the history of the counterculture, you’d have stumbled across the legend of Blue Lena. She had a secret compartment specifically designed to hide the stash from the authorities. She was Keef’s night driving weapon of choice, transporting the riffmeister and his various cohorts to places like Marrakech, Barcelona and Monte Carlo. Blue Lena was the scene of many a harrowing episode from Keef’s brilliant Biography from 2010, My Life.

This car, named after noirish legend of the blues Lena Horne, has apparently changed hands three times since the rock star off-hired her in 1978, has been restored recently to its full glory, and is expected to raise in the region of half a million sovs when it comes under the hammer.

Sounds like a bargain for a genuine lump of cultural history.

Keith’s recent bio book describes a number of trips in this car, in colourful and lurid detail.
