Volkswagen Amarok Power Pickup Concept

Cars

There was a time when the pickup truck was the battered and mud spattered companion of the farmer or small builder. Not to mention those good old boys from across the pond

VAT loopholes and new improved spec saw its appeal widen, and VW launched their take on the genre a good few years ago but the Amarok Power concept really shows how far these light commercial vehicles can move from their workhorse roots.

At last year’s Wörthersee festival VW launched the first version of their one-off concept with a 3 litre V6 TDI engine which pushed the four wheel drive through its eight speed automatic box at sports car speeds, achieving 0-62 mph in 7.9 seconds.

This year’s update is loud in more ways than one, yes there’s that orange trim, but this beast is wired for sound with a 5000 watt speaker system stowed in the flat-bed to wow the crowds at Wörthersee this week (May 28-31).

With it’s 22-inch alloys and snazzy paint job this is one Pickup that would look well out of place down on the farm…
