We like rally-spec berlinettas. Something classic, incongruous about them. They remind us of the full blooded Stratos – and we think we’ve even seen a Ferrari or two don the spotlights with aplomb, right?
This year Lotus stepped into the breach and entered a hardcore version of the Exige – reviviving a tradition dormant since the Sunbeam Lotus of the eighties ebbed into memory.
The Exige will compete in the FIA’s ‘R-GT’ competition, which this year is to be fought on Asphalt stages at Monte Carlo, Tour de Corse and San Remo.
It’s packing the same supercharged 3.5 litre six as the road car – and homologation regs don’t admit many performance-enhancing tweaks, so Lotus get once again to show their ability to put a superbly handling production car into battle.
We think you’ll agree it looks pretty good.
