Walter Kronkite on Motor Racing…

Fascinating piece of footage here from the mid fifties of the iconic CBS anchorman Walter Kronkite taking viewers through a typically hokum, typically mock-portentous commentary on what exactly motivates racing drivers.

Our favourite moments are the openers, where the venerable newsman (once known as ‘the most trusted man in America) barely conceals his boyish glee as he picks a line through a country lane in a white Austin Healey.

Fascinating outsiders’ eye view too, of our Sterling winning the Monaco GP in (we think) 1956.

Correct us if we’re wrong!
