Took me a while to track it down, as it's Keira Knightley in the ad. The bike is a Ducati Supersport 750 (for most of the ad!) and she is sporting some beautiful Ruby headgear, too.

74 Ducati=way after the Cafe Racer era in reference. There was no comparable Italian bikes in the heyday of Brit Rockers.

So, go on then. What exactly was faster than a JAP-engined Matchless, a Brough Superior, a Vincent or Triumph Bonneville?

And, while we're at it, I have done my homework, pal.

I've interviewed - at length - Mark Wilsmore from The Ace, Father Dennis, Martine and Claude from the French '59 Club. Black Cecil, Sean 'The Rocketeer' and Derek from Lewis Leathers. Trini. Ken, Steve, Ian and Brian from The Busy Bee. Oliver Tobias. Dave 'Dammed' Vanian. And many, many others.

No-one looked like the revisionists? Check out 'The Leather Boys' - a movie that employed real-life Ace Caff regulars as extras - or, better still, Johnny Stuart's excellent book 'Rockers'. Or, do like I did and ask my Dad who wore a black leather jacket, hid a flick-knife in the turn-ups on his blue jeans and sat outside the Palais De Danse on his British Cafe Racer. He would have gone in but was banned for fighting.

Perhaps the next time you parade your ignorace in public you could try not to so rude. You might end up looking stupid.

Oh, you just did.

No, the fastest bikes have not always been British ... what a silly, silly thing to say.

And do, for example, Ducati and Moto Guzzi not have their own tradition of cafe racers?

Of course ... where do you think the feckin' traditions of "caffs" come from ... they were feckin' run by Italians.

I'll take the original '74 750 SS Duke ... and so would half of any time served rocker if they had had the chance.

Berry is just yet another hack regurgitating the usual tired, worn out stereotypes. Too young to know the truth, too lazy to do the footwork, too stupid to know the difference between the real thing and the Hollywood version.

What was it like in the old days ... s**t mostly. No one looked like the revisionists, certainly no real rocker could afford to. The bikes were old nails, the makers that made them arrogance and contemptful of us. Kids on Gold Stars ... don't make me laugh.
