Kaiser Traveller Sedan

Cars

Man alive: yet again we were gobsmacked when we stumbled across the Kaiser Traveller Sedan.

We consider ourselves aficionados of automotive utilitarianism – and when you throw in a bit of disguised stealth, then we’re slathering. So what if it was no performer? In fact you can see that it’s tangibly lurch-like. This is a car for cruising long and slowly.

The car dates from 1949 – a time when relatively small volume carmakers like Kaiser were struggling against the rising giants like Ford and GM. The Michigan firm had launched in 1945 at the height of the post war rush to build motors for a car-starved public. You can see the boomtime encoded in the indulgent scale of everything here.

And we reckon you could get a 9 foot surfboard in there, too.
