"We may have featured a Porsche 993 and an Aston DB7 in this edition, both of which were launched in 1993 - but they would never sell anywhere near as many units as one of the year's more down to earth motor "
Kevin Cyr: Alternative Americana
Brooklyn-based artist Kevin Cyr manages to infuse the beaten up old vehicles he draws with a real sense of emotion. Like careworn characters in a drama evolving along the highways of America, his subjects are tagged up Econolines and beat up old Mr Whippy vans. In Kevin’s hand the American automotive dream is a much less glamorous affair than more traditional idealised American automotive art. “I have always been interested in painting vehicles and scenes that have defined the evolution of the American landscape,” he says, “Removing [these old vehicles] from their everyday context gives them portrait-like importance. ”
