Maserati Bora

Cars

It might look a litttle fat and bloated, and it might have had enough Citroen bits and pieces to put off the purists, but Maserati‘s Giugiaro-styled Bora from seventies is about as dialled-in a period piece as you could possibly imagine.

And what’s more, at the moment it’ll cost you a lot less than your comparable Countach or Ferrari BB.

Personally, we think the pure brutalism of the package is super-cool. With those hard sculpted edges and near-solid alloys combined perfectly with the ‘Indy’ 4.7L V8 – it’s more handsome than a Pantera and we think, just as desirable.

It is both vastly more handsome AND vastly more desirable than the uncoordinated, Detroit-engined Pantera. It is arguably Giugiaro’s finest mid-engined design from the period, undoubtedly the most beautiful Maser since the 300S and inestimably better to drive than its Ghibli & Indy siblings. It is less of a drama queen – and far more user-friendly – than the Countach, and more than able to hold its own against the fine Ferrari Boxer. And, of course, it is a Maserati – THE gentleman’s car.

  2. There is nothing like enjoying the sound, smell and feel of a properly sorted Bora in a deserted tunnel!
I love my 911 Turbo and Kleemann Kompressor CL, but the Bora is in a different league!
